Where to Buy Art for Your Gallery Wall: Shops, Indie Studios & Free Museum Prints
Where to buy affordable art for a gallery wall: marketplaces, curated galleries, indie studios, and free museum prints, plus size, mat, and return tips.

The best place to buy art for a gallery wall is wherever you find pieces that catch your eye at a price you’re comfortable with. This guide covers the main options, from big marketplaces with endless choice to small studios with a strong point of view, plus museums that let you download famous works for free.
There’s no formula for choosing art. Get what speaks to you. The one rule that actually matters is to set a budget before you start browsing and stick to it, because art shopping is where gallery wall budgets quietly fall apart. Our gallery wall cost guide can help you set a realistic number.
💡 Tip: Plan your layout in GalleryPlanner before you buy art. Once you know your wall needs one 16×20, two 11×14s, and a handful of 8×10s, you can shop for specific sizes instead of falling for a piece that doesn’t fit anywhere.
Prices and policies below were checked in October 2026. Shops change both often, so confirm on the shop’s site before you order.
Before You Shop: Three Things to Check
1. The Size, and Whether You Want a Mat
The most common art-buying mistake is a print that doesn’t fit the frame. Decide first whether each piece will fill its frame edge to edge or sit inside a mat. An 8×10 print in an 11×14 frame with a mat looks very different from an 11×14 print in the same frame. Our frame size guide covers the standard pairings, and DIY matting shows how to make your own.
Two traps to watch for:
- Metric sizes. Shops based in Europe often sell prints in centimeters (30×40, 50×70) or A sizes (A4, A3). Those won’t fit standard US frames without a custom mat or frame.
- Borders. Some shops list the paper size, not the image size. Society6, for example, adds a white border to its art prints, so the visible art is smaller than the listed dimensions.
2. Physical Print or Digital Download?
Many shops sell digital downloads alongside printed art. Downloads are cheaper and arrive instantly, but printing them yourself is trickier than it looks. Home printers rarely do art justice, and the file needs enough resolution for the size you want. Read the print resolution guide before you buy a download for a large frame.
3. The Return Policy
A lot of art is final sale. That includes most framed or made-to-order pieces, and at some shops it covers everything. Check the policy before you buy, especially for anything large or expensive. Some return windows start on the order date, not the delivery date, so a slow shipment uses up part of your window.
Big Marketplaces
Huge selection and every price point. You’ll need to do more digging, and quality varies more than at a curated shop.
Etsy
Independent artists and sellers, with everything from inexpensive printables to original paintings. Search terms like “gallery wall print set” bring up coordinated sets.
Good to know:
- Every listing is its own little shop: price, framing, shipping, and returns are set by the seller, so read each listing.
- Check whether a listing is a digital download or a printed, shipped item. It’s easy to miss.
- Etsy’s Purchase Protection program covers eligible orders that don’t arrive, arrive damaged, or don’t match the listing.
Best for: Finding something specific, personal, or unusual. Also good for supporting individual artists directly.
Society6
A marketplace where independent artists upload designs and Society6 prints and ships them to order. Unframed art prints are on cotton archival paper, and framed versions start around $65.
Good to know:
- Its Gallery Wall Sets and collage sets (10 or 20 small prints) are built for exactly this project.
- Listed sizes include a white border, so measure the actual image area before choosing a mat.
- US shipping only; it doesn’t currently ship internationally.
- Returns are accepted within 30 days of delivery, minus a return-shipping deduction.
Best for: Budget-friendly, colorful, graphic art, and ready-made sets.
Fine Art America
A very large print-on-demand marketplace covering independent artists and licensed collections. You can order the same image as a poster, canvas, framed print, or metal print.
Good to know:
- Framed prints arrive with hanging wire, with lots of frame and mat combinations to choose from.
- Orders are made on demand and shipped from the facility nearest you.
- The 30-day return window starts on the order date, and shipping isn’t refunded unless the print is defective.
Best for: Getting one specific image in exactly the format, size, and frame you want.
Minted
Minted’s art comes from independent artists through design challenges where the community votes on which designs get made. Many pieces are labeled “Part of a Set,” which makes matching pairs and trios easy.
Good to know:
- Art prints ship free.
- Limited- and open-edition prints can be returned within 30 days; Rare Editions and customizable art are final sale.
- Framed options are available, so a set can arrive ready to hang.
Best for: Polished, coordinated art when you want pieces that obviously belong together.
Curated Online Galleries
Someone has done the editing for you. Prices run a bit higher than the big marketplaces, but browsing is a lot faster.
20x200
Founded in 2007 by curator Jen Bekman with a simple idea: art for everyone. Contemporary prints are limited editions with a numbered, hand-signed certificate of authenticity.
Good to know:
- A few small pieces start at $15, and many prints start around $40 in the smallest size. Prices rise steeply with size, so the same image can cost several times more at 16Ă—20.
- Most unframed prints up to 16Ă—20 can be returned within 30 days. Framed and larger pieces are final sale.
- Framing is available for US addresses and adds 2–4 weeks.
Best for: Your first “real” art: a signed, numbered piece at a small-print price.
Artfully Walls
Hand-picked prints from established and emerging artists on heavy cotton paper, with 20+ frame options. Small prints start around $24.
Good to know:
- Its pre-styled gallery walls are complete arrangements you can buy as a set, at 20% off when you take the whole wall.
- Everything is final sale. Plan your sizes carefully before ordering.
- Orders ship in 10–14 business days.
Best for: A finished, designer-styled look without choosing every piece yourself.
Saatchi Art
Best known for original art, Saatchi Art also sells prints of work by artists worldwide, on paper, canvas, metal, or acrylic. Many prints start around $40.
Good to know:
- The artists also sell originals here, so if you love a $40 print you can find the artist’s original later.
- Open-edition prints and print frames are final sale.
- Free art advisory is available if you want help choosing.
Best for: Discovering artists with a body of work you can grow into.
The Crafted Prints
A family-owned studio in California selling unframed prints from independent artists. Prices are among the lowest on this list.
Good to know:
- US-standard sizes in inches, so prints fit off-the-shelf frames.
- US shipping is $4.95, free over $100. Orders ship within a few business days.
- Returns within 14 days. Orders placed with a promo code are final sale.
Best for: Filling a lot of frames on a small budget.
Paper Collective
A Copenhagen-based collective of handpicked artists and studios, with a focus on sustainable production. The look is Scandinavian: calm, graphic, lots of white space.
Good to know:
- Prints come in metric sizes. Use the size guide, and plan for metric frames or a custom mat.
- Paper Collective sells its own oak and aluminum frames separately.
- Orders ship from Denmark. Returns are accepted within 14 days, but you pay return shipping to Denmark.
Best for: A minimal, Nordic-style wall.
Small Independent Studios
Smaller shops with a distinct style. You’re buying close to the artist, and the art usually has more personality.
Juniper Print Shop
My wife bought a few of Juniper’s prints, and they’re scattered around our house. Juniper was founded in 2017 by Jenny Komenda in Mesa, Arizona, and sells everything from digital downloads to large statement pieces.
Good to know:
- Paper prints, canvas, and digital downloads, plus custom framing and art sized for Frame TVs.
- Prints start around $29. Shipping is free on orders over $250.
- Unframed prints can be returned within 30 days of purchase. Framed prints are final sale.
Best for: Statement pieces and art that feels at home in a lived-in house.
Noirci Studio
A studio founded by painter Robert Lawrence in Plano, Texas, selling canvas art celebrating Black life, history, and culture. I love the colorful work, the emotion and expression the art captures, and how much variety the catalog has, from Harlem Renaissance portraiture to Gullah Geechee and Afrofuturism collections.
Good to know:
- Canvas only, made to order: rolled canvas starts around $54, with stretched and framed options available.
- Free shipping anywhere in the US, usually 4–8 business days.
- 30-day returns, with a 20% restocking fee if you simply change your mind.
Best for: A bold, colorful anchor piece with a story behind it.
PSTR Studio
A Dutch studio selling bold, graphic prints in themes like botanical, minimalist, Japandi, and abstract. Its themed Artwalls are coordinated sets designed to hang together.
Good to know:
- Prints start around €36. Most sizes are metric, but some designs also come in 18×24” and 24×36”, which fit standard US frames.
- Print shipping to the US is free and takes about 3–5 business days. Frames cost extra.
- Problems need to be reported within 7 days of delivery, and you pay return shipping.
Best for: Color and graphic punch, and ready-made sets.
They Made This
A UK shop founded in 2018, with stores in London and Brighton, representing more than 50 graphic artists, photographers, and designers. Prints start around ÂŁ15.
Good to know:
- Prints come in A sizes (A4, A2, etc.), so plan for metric frames or a custom mat.
- Framing is only available for UK delivery, so US buyers get unframed prints.
- Worldwide delivery takes 7–15 working days, and overseas buyers pay any import duties.
Best for: Playful, design-forward prints you won’t see on everyone else’s wall.
Free and Museum Art
Classic art is often free. These are also a smart way to test a layout: print a few free pieces, hang them, and see how the wall feels before you spend money.
A Home Is Announced: Public Domain Print Shop
My wife has used this one a couple of times. Kadie, the photographer and designer behind the blog, has hand-picked public-domain art from museum archives into galleries like Flowers & Botanical, Scenic, Portraits & People, and Abstract & Modern, plus seasonal and themed collections. Each piece links to a free high-resolution download, and the page includes tips for printing. It’s the easiest place to start if the museum archives below feel overwhelming.
The blog also sells themed Frame TV art sets. Those files are formatted for the TV, not for printing.
The Met Open Access
The Metropolitan Museum of Art offers hundreds of thousands of images of public-domain artworks under a CC0 license, free for any use. Look for the “OA” icon in the lower-left corner of an artwork image, then click the download icon in the lower right.
National Gallery of Art
More than 60,000 free images, available for any use. Search the collection, filter to works with downloads, and use the Download image of current slide button on the artwork’s page.
Before you print a free download, check that the file is large enough for your frame. Our print resolution guide covers how big each file can go.
Tate Shop
If you’d rather not deal with printing, the Tate in London sells prints made to order from its collection, many starting at £30. It ships to the US for a flat £28 per order with duties already paid, and delivery takes 2–4 weeks. Custom prints can’t be returned if you change your mind.
When You Want One Splurge
Plenty of great gallery walls are mostly affordable prints with one special piece. If you want that piece, these two are worth a look:
- House of Spoils sells striking photography, framed and ready to hang. The smallest size (a 12×8” image, frame included) starts around $225, or $165 with a membership, and larger sizes climb quickly, so save it for one hero piece. All sales are final.
- Uprise Art is a New York gallery whose Print Series offers signed, numbered limited editions made with Brooklyn print studios, in the low-to-mid hundreds of dollars. All sales are final, and it offers free art advisory if you want help choosing.
Secondhand and Handmade
Honestly, most of the art in our house is secondhand. Thrift stores, estate sales, flea markets, and Facebook Marketplace are full of framed art, and a found piece often brings character no shop can. See The Vintage Vibe for making mismatched finds work together.
Handmade art counts too. Our friends Molly and James run Threading Our Journey, which sells modern cross-stitch patterns. A finished piece fits right into a mixed gallery wall, and the hoop can double as the frame.
