Saving & Projects

Your work is saved automatically on your device. For portable backups and cross-device transfer, use .gwall files.

• Auto-SaveChanges are saved on your device automatically: in your browser's local storage on the web, or inside the app on iPhone. Your layout, frames, photos, and analysis data survive restarts, but not clearing browser data or deleting the app. In the iPhone app, projects and photos are included in iCloud Backup when it's on, so restoring a backup that includes them brings them back on a new iPhone. In a browser, export a .gwall copy of anything important.
• Import / Export ProjectExport Project saves a portable .gwall file containing your entire project: every wall, frame inventory, photos, and analysis data. Import Project opens it on any device, in a browser or the iPhone app. The current version opens .gwall files from any older version, but files exported by the current version may not open in older versions of the app.
• Export All ProjectsProBack up everything in one step — every project is saved as its own .gwall file. On desktop, open the Project menu → Export All Projects; on mobile, tap your project's name at the top of the screen, then Export All Projects.
• Import ProjectsProRestore a full backup or move to a new device: import several .gwall files at once and each one becomes its own project. On desktop, open the Project menu → Import Projects; on mobile, tap your project's name, then Import Projects.
• Backup RemindersYour projects live on this device — never on our servers. So GalleryPlanner reminds you from time to time to save a portable copy, and you can export right from the reminder: Export Project, or Back Up Projects with Pro to export everything at once.
• If a Project Goes MissingGalleryPlanner is local-first: your projects and photos are stored on this device (in this browser, or inside the iPhone app), never on our servers. That means two things worth knowing. First, projects don't sync across computers, browsers, or the app — Pro follows your account for access to features, not your project data. Second, in Safari on iPhone and iPad, the browser can clear storage for sites you haven't visited in a while, which can erase projects with no warning. The iPhone app stores projects in its own files and includes them in iCloud Backup when it's on, but deleting the app still erases them. Export Project is the fix for both: it saves a portable copy as a .gwall file you can re-import on any device, so your work never lives in just one place.
• Undo & RedoUp to 50 levels of undo/redo per project. Use Ctrl+Z to undo and Ctrl+Shift+Z to redo. On mobile and in the iPhone app, use the Undo and Redo buttons. History is cleared when you close the tab or app.
• Multi-Project EditingProGalleryPlanner Pro unlocks full editing across multiple projects, so you can keep separate spaces — or competing ideas — going at once. Planning several walls in one space? That's Multi-Wall Projects, below.
• Multi-Wall ProjectsProKeep a whole room in one plan: every wall in a project shares one photo library, undo covers them all, and exports include every wall — the Hanging Guide gets a section per wall. Your first wall is always free; adding a second wall and beyond requires Pro.
• Duplicate ProjectProWant to try a different direction without losing what you have? Duplicate makes a complete copy of your current project. On desktop, open the Project menu → Duplicate Project; on mobile, tap your project's name at the top of the screen, then Duplicate.
